With the local job market being short on certain skill areas, candidates are getting ever hard to recruit and entice into new roles.
So you have found that perfect new job, now is the time to hand in your resignation and firm up that start date. No one has mentioned it, not even in your mind.....
Your current employer reads your notice and stares back at you; Followed with; “Im really shocked,
I thought you were happy here, we had promotion in mind for you too, let’s have a chat before you make your final decision
We have a pay rise scheduled for you in the next quarter, but we can bring that forward for you”
So what is the boss thinking when they see your notice?
This is one of my best people, what disruption is this going to cause to figures, office moral etc I wonder if I can we keep them until I can find a suitable replacement, timing couldn’t be worse, we already have another vacancy But why has it taken your resignation to prompt this payrise or promotion?
Here are 8 questions I would consider if you are faced with the above;
In a summary 50% to 80% of employees that sit tight and accept counter offers leave their role within 6 months anyway due to unkept promises. A majority of the balance involuntarily leave due to being laid off within 12 months. So sadly in the meantime that perfect new position that you found has been snapped up by someone else!
